Congress will subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell to testify about alleged Epstein client list

A House committee will subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell, imprisoned associate of the late disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, for testimony related to an alleged list of high-profile clients who engaged in sex with underage girls.

An Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee voted unanimously Tuesday to direct Chairman James Comer, Kentucky Republican, to issue the subpoena.

“The committee will seek to subpoena Ms. Maxwell as expeditiously as possible,” an aide said.

Maxwell was convicted in federal court on sex trafficking charges and is serving a 20-year sentence at a minimum-security prison in Tallahassee, Florida.

An aide told The Times that the Oversight panel will work with the Justice Department and Bureau of Prisons “to identify a date when the committee can depose her.”

Maxwell lost an appeal to overturn her conviction and has asked the Supreme Court to review her case on the grounds that Epstein’s 2007 plea agreement should have shielded her from prosecution.

Epstein was found dead in a New York City jail cell in 2019 as he awaited prosecution on sex trafficking charges. Maxwell was charged essentially for serving as his accomplice in procuring underaged girls for Epstein

The Justice Department has released thousands of pages of documents related to the case against Epstein but has withheld many more documents, as well as information about videos depicting child pornography.

No client list is among the evidence, Attorney General Pam Bondi said, nor is there information that could lead to the investigation of “third parties” in the case.

Amid pressure from President Trump’s MAGA base and Democrats who are accusing Mr. Trump of hiding evidence to protect himself, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that he plans to interview Maxwell about alleged clients.
