D.C. sues four more drivers for thousands in unpaid fines

D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb is suing four more Maryland and Virginia drivers over unpaid traffic fines worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Office of the Attorney General said in a release Tuesday that the four drivers amassed over $340,000 from more than 1,000 traffic citations. One of the accused drivers is from Virginia, the rest from Maryland.

Temple Hills, Maryland, resident Ashley Kibler owes $168,168 for 414 citations she incurred from January 2019 through last August.

While 360 of those citations were for speeding, she also ran red lights and stop signs, turned from the wrong lane, drove without rear lights and drove an uninsured car, OAG said.

Fredericksburg, Virginia, resident Sean Hudson racked up 283 citations from January 2016 through May 2024. All but four of the citations were for dangerous driving, OAG said. Mr. Hudson owes $83,100.

Andrea Reid of Silver Spring, Maryland, got 206 citations worth $56,010 from June 2013 through last October. OAG said they were for speeding and running red lights.

The District of Columbia wrote up Brentwood, Maryland, resident Terrell Jenkins for 102 traffic violations between September 2016 and last July. OAG said 75 of the citations were for speeding and that he owes $33,432.

The lawsuits are the latest in a string of legal actions brought against drivers from outside the District under the Strengthening Traffic Enforcement, Education, and Responsibility (STEER) Act that went into effect in October.
