Donald Trump to speak with Narendra Modi after Kashmir attack

President Trump will speak with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi “as soon as he possibly can” after being briefed of the terror attack that left at least 20 dead, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

Mr. Trump commented on Truth Social about the “deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir.”

“The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured,” he wrote Tuesday. “Prime Minister Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!”

At least four gunmen opened fire and killed at least 20 tourists at a resort in Kashmir, police said Tuesday. Others are injured.

Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir wrote in an X post that, “this attack is much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years.”

Vice President J.D. Vance, who was visiting another part of India with his Indian-born wife as the attack occurred, called it a “devastating terrorist attack.”

“Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people,” he wrote in an X post. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack.”

Ms. Leavitt told the press that “these types of horrific events by terrorists are why those of us who work for peace and stability in the world continue our mission” and that a readout of the call will be provided later Tuesday.
