Leftists have made a project of rewriting history and pushing speech controls in order to distort everybody’s view of reality.
It’s been an ongoing project, and they have done a pretty good job of it. For instance, most Democrats firmly believe the Russia collusion hoax, the “fine people” hoax, and the entire country (indeed, the world) was gaslit into believing the COVID narrative.
All of these hoaxes were relatively easy to see through if you cared to dive into them, but one of the great privileges of living in a well-functioning society is that we are supposed to be able to trust others to at least try to tell the truth.
In the United States, the media and the left are currently pushing another hoax — the supposed rebirth of lynchings — based on constant repetitions of falsehoods and media narratives that darkly imply that black people are being hanged by white people. Not a single example is as presented. Most were suicides, and one was black men hanging another black person.

Russiagate was the experiment, “fine people” was a second successful hoax, and COVID added the government-aided narrative control to turn reality completely upside-down.
Andy Burnham looked at all this and liked what he saw, so of course, when he spoke to the transnationalists at the United Nations, he proudly announced an expansion of the falsehood state.

It’s all based on the claim that Western countries are being bombarded by “misinformation” from foreign adversaries, a statement that is trivially true. Of course we are. They are adversaries, and they understand the importance of propaganda.
The fact that this is happening is not the same thing as it being particularly new or a crisis. I can think of a million more important things, including the TikTok mass psychosis.
Moreover, it’s striking how vague the warnings are, given the urgency invoked. As Zia Yousef shows in this wonderful exchange, for all the urgency to fix this crisis and the stated necessity of destroying civil rights to combat Russia, nobody exactly knows what the danger actually is.
I can tell you the danger: people are pissed off that the government is screwing them over, and shutting them up is the solution, according to the government. Every tinpot dictator agrees with that sentiment.

The real problem in Western countries, which is far more pressing than Russian “disinformation,” which is pretty easy to spot, is media and government disinformation. We get bombarded by falsehoods every day by people who pick and choose what they think we should believe and shove it down our throats.

Again, consider COVID. What percentage of the “news” we were told was actually solid and based in reality? Precious little. WPATH, we were told, was filled with scientific experts on gender medicine, but in court they now say they were just spitballing.
I can think of a thousand lies that people have been led to believe by the government and media complex that are genuinely harmful and divisive, and not one that Russia has been spreading.
By that I don’t mean that Russia isn’t spreading lies. It is, all the time. I firmly believe Putin is evil. I just don’t think that the lies are terribly effective. China is much better, but that’s because it spreads money around and buys our “experts” whom we are told to believe.
If Russia were that good at misinformation, Trump’s supposed association with Putin would be seen as a positive, since Russia would have a good reputation. It doesn’t.
“Misinformation” is just another word, in the mouths of our “betters,” for things they don’t want us to think or believe. Such as “masks don’t work” and “COVID vaccines don’t prevent infection.”
Creating another government agency to stamp out inconvenient ideas won’t make Russian misinformation less powerful, because it has almost no power. It will only help promote the misinformation from our governments, and will provide diminishing returns for that as well.
