Gustavo Gordillo, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) leader who is constantly whining about rich people and claiming to be a man of the people, not only lost an apprenticeship by never showing up to work, but also is facing a lawsuit for skipping rent payments.
It is important to understand that Gordillo is not some starving victim of circumstances who couldn’t pay rent because he didn’t have the money. His parents are very wealthy; he makes almost $100,000 a year for being an activist; and his pricey home underwent costly renovations. While the renovation was occurring, he was renting an apartment. Renting is a somewhat deceptive word here, because although he lived in the apartment, he apparently spent a couple months not paying thousands of dollars for the privilege. Perhaps squatting is a better description.
In March, landlord Shimon Liashi dragged Gordillo to court over $5,000 of skipped payments from December and January. Even though there is a legal requirement in New York for tenants to file a response within 10 days, Gordillo never did, so the case isn’t resolved. The New York Post explained:
Gordillo, 38, the privileged son of a Florida construction magnate, is being sued in Brooklyn housing court after skipping out on three rent payments of $2,500 for a Crown Heights apartment he leased while the $1.5 million townhouse gifted to him by his rich daddy underwent renovations, according to court filings.
The Yale University-educated sculptor moved into the “stunning” one-bedroom pad on Eastern Parkway in May 2025, according to court records.
Gordillo is a typical socialist leader, who talks constantly about how he is one of the people, and how he can’t wait to overthrow the wealthy tyrants, even though he himself is a wealthy tyrant who never did a full day’s work, nor ever will if he can help it. Just like Karl Marx himself, Gordillo is a whiny wastrel who sponges off more successful people, including his relatives. He has an entitlement mentality.

For instance, his X account still describes him as a union electrician, even though he has never been a union electrician. He had an apprenticeship from which he got fired because he never showed up to work. After that, living in the house mentioned above that his parents bought, he convinced DSA to give him a job, so he now reportedly makes $95,000 a year.
Despite all the cash circulating in the family, Gordillo didn’t feel any responsibility to pay his landlord.
[New York Post] From day one, he treated the rent bill like a mere suggestion, dodging payments for months at a time only to cough up one lump sum after he’d racked up three months of unpaid rent, according to the account statement included in the court case… Not only is Gordillo a so-called “rent abolitionist” — a movement popularized by Mayor Mamdani housing guru Tracy Rosenthal — he doesn’t even believe in housing court altogether.
Which, of course, has nothing whatsoever to do with justice, and everything to do with him wanting endless freebies he never earned. Socialism is the mentality of a spoiled toddler turned into a political ideology.
