Iranian state media reports explosions in coastal region

Iranian state-affiliated media reported explosions in coastal towns Sunday, just hours after Tehran launched retaliatory strikes against U.S. military installations in Persian Gulf states.

The Fars News Agency, which is affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported that explosions rocked the coastal city of Bandar Abbas and the area of Qeshm, another city on Iran’s coast.

The semi-official Mehr News Agency reported attacks on Iran’s Farur island, southwest of Bandar Abbas. The report said a telecommunications worker was killed and two others injured in the strike.

At least 10 projectiles reportedly struck Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Hossein Amir Teymouri, the island’s governor, said all the targets were military installations and there were no casualties.

Iran has not directly blamed the U.S. for the strikes, and there was no immediate statement from U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East.

However, the U.S. launched strikes on Iranian military targets late Saturday and early Sunday. The assault was the largest of its kind since the collapse of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire last week.

CENTCOM said its forces attacked at least 140 targets across Iran, focusing on hampering Tehran’s ability to interfere with commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
