Socialists Boot Progressive Dem in Colorado – HotAir

If you loved IngSoc and Big Brother in George Orwell’s 1984, you’re gonna love DemSoc in 2026 America. It won’t be confined to just New York City and the oyster farms of Maine. And in fact, it has only ever been confined to Academia, but last night’s primary in Colorado shows that “Democratic Socialism” has broken out of the lab and may start a pandemic.

House Democrat Diana DeGette served 15 terms in Congress, belonged to the Congressional Progressive Caucus and even got its endorsement, and helped Colorado shift left over the last 20 years. DeGette got repaid by having DemSoc paint her as a stooge of the establishment, and DeGette’s constituents dumped her for the new flavor of anti-Semitic Communism:

The anti-establishment wave surging through the Democratic Party reached Colorado on Tuesday, when democratic socialist Melat Kiros dislodged 15-term Rep. Diana DeGette, and state Attorney General Phil Weiser thwarted Sen. Michael Bennet’s quest to become governor.

In the Denver-anchored 1st District, Kiros, a lawyer and doctoral student, was leading DeGette, 51 percent to 42 percent just after midnight Wednesday, when The Associated Press called the race. University of Colorado Regent Wanda James trailed with 7 percent.

Kiros’ win marks another victory for the progressive group Justice Democrats and the Democratic Socialists of America, which backed two candidates who ousted a pair of House members from New York last week. …

“Denver voters of all ages, of all races, of all religions sent a clear message: We will not wait,’’ Kiros told supporters in Denver after she was declared the winner. “We will not wait to take the fight to Donald Trump and the oligarchy, we will not wait to abolish ICE and pass ‘Medicare for All.’ … And no, we will not wait to end the genocide in Palestine.”

The Wall Street Journal notes that the results in New York had already frightened “centrists” in the Democrat Party. DeGette wasn’t a centrist, the report later acknowledges, and it never quantifies how many “centrists” still remain within the ranks of party leadership:

The victories in New York set off alarm bells for centrists, and the elections in Colorado served as a barometer for whether progressive candidates appeal to voters outside coastal metropolitan areas. Kiros topped DeGette 51% to 42% with 93% of the vote counted, the AP reported. Weiser led Bennet 56% to 44%. …

DeGette isn’t a centrist, and had the backing of a prominent progressive, Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington, the former chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. In a video posted on social media, Jayapal cited DeGette’s seniority and role as the top Democrat on a powerful subcommittee as critical to actually building support for progressive healthcare policy.

DeGette’s policy agenda barely differed from that of Kiros, Roll Call points out:

First elected in 1996, before Kiros was born, DeGette has been a reliable progressive in Congress. She’s the top Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee and made her seniority a key part of her closing argument to voters.

She had the backing of her fellow Democrats in the Colorado delegation, as well as the Congressional Progressive Caucus. As she sought reelection, she touted her efforts to lower the cost of insulin, protect access to reproductive health and stressed her progressive bona fides, including being a co-sponsor of legislation that would establish “Medicare for All.”

So what pushed voters to choose DemSoc? Donald Trump hatred and anti-Israel fervor, both fed by the prog-elite of the Left, especially based in Academia. This is not a new problem; this cancer has been growing for decades in our educational systems, now all the way down to primary education levels. The residual radical Left took up residence in Academia and has spent its time over the decades indoctrinating and marinating children and adolescents in radical ideologies.

The cancer of Marx-Lenin has finally broken out as a systemic illness, and an attack on the body politic at the highest level. Previously, it had been contained to local elections in urban areas;  Zohran Mamdani’s election looked at first to just be another iteration of the same pattern seen in Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, and other major cities. Now we know that it was a superspreader event, and Colorado won’t be the last location of its tumors.

I’ll finish this off with a peek at our future in video from Melat Kiros’ victory party. You may hear “Goldstein,” but if you listen carefully, what you’ll actually hear is “Trump” and “Israel.” DemSoc rules, baby … and that’s exactly what it intends to do.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
