Country singer Kenny Chesney says it’s not his place to tell people ‘how to vote’

Country music artist Kenny Chesney recently shared his perspective on mixing music with politics during an appearance on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast. The conversation arose after Mr. Chesney asked Mr. Maher about his appreciation for Bruce Springsteen, leading Maher to note how frequently entertainment and politics intersect.

During the episode, Mr. Chesney explicitly stated that he chooses not to use his musical platform to influence the political views or actions of his audience. He explained, “I’ve never saw it to be my place to use my stage or platform, no matter where I’m playing, to tell people how to think or how to vote.”

Mr. Chesney further expressed gratitude that his previous appearance on Mr. Maher’s television show in November avoided political topics, reiterating that he refuses to engage in political messaging through his platform.

Mr. Maher responded by agreeing that he also prefers not to focus on politics constantly, noting that he considers himself multidimensional. However, Mr. Maher offered a slightly different perspective regarding his own show, stating that when he hosts major political figures, he intends to have direct conversations about serious issues.
