23XI Racing employee suspended indefinitely after golf cart assault at Charlotte

NASCAR has indefinitely suspended a 23XI Racing employee following her arrest on felony assault charges during last weekend’s race events at Charlotte Motor Speedway, according to the sport’s weekly penalty report.

Evanna Howell, 35, a senior account manager for the Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin co-owned team, was listed on NASCAR’s Wednesday penalty report for a violation of Section 4.4.A of the rulebook — the behavioral conduct provision — and was suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of the legal process, WBTV reported.

Cabarrus County court records show Ms. Howell was arrested on Saturday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, a felony under North Carolina law. A Concord police report states the incident occurred that afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway — the day before the Coca-Cola 600 — when Ms. Howell allegedly struck a 77-year-old man with a golf cart, causing a severe laceration.

Ms. Howell was released from the Cabarrus County jail on Tuesday after posting a $125,000 bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for June 16.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Ms. Howell has been with 23XI Racing since 2021. The Huntersville-based team fields three cars in the NASCAR Cup Series, with drivers Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace and Riley Herbst. Reddick, who currently leads the Cup Series points standings, finished fourth in Sunday’s rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600.
