Louisiana authorities said eight children, including a baby, were killed in a mass shooting Sunday morning before police fatally shot the suspect.
Shreveport police said the victims ranged in age from 1 to 14 years old. Gunfire erupted in three separate homes.
“You have three different scenes, the shooting itself occurred just down the road over here, the 300 block of West 79th,” said police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon. “There’s also another shooting related to this on Harrison Street, and then there’s an adjacent residence on West 79 where one of the victims ran to after the shooting.”
Authorities said two people survived the attack that started as a domestic disturbance call around 6 a.m.
Some of the victims were descendants of the male suspect, who police did not name.
Officials said the suspect carjacked a driver and tried to flee, but police shot and killed him during the pursuit.
“We do believe him to be the only individual that fired gunshots at these locations here,” Mr. Bordelon said.
