A Frontier Airlines plane nearly hit two trucks on a taxiway at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday night.
The jet, Frontier Flight 3216, was taxiing 10 to 15 mph when it was cut off by the trucks, CBS News reporter Kris Van Cleave said on X. No one was injured in the incident, but the pilots said it was an especially close call.
The pilot told air traffic control at LAX that “we just had two trucks cut us off. We had to slam on the brakes to not hit them. … It was real close, closest I’ve ever seen,” according to audio footage cited by KCBS-TV.
The near miss occurred in one of the few areas not visible to air traffic controllers — in the center of an airfield between two terminal buildings, according to aviation news site Simple Flying.
Frontier Airlines told KCBS that 217 passengers and seven crew members were on board the plane, which was due to depart for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
“We are aware of the incident. No injuries were reported to passengers or crew. We thank our crew for their vigilance and professionalism,” Frontier Airlines told KNBC-TV.
The Federal Aviation Administration told KCBS that it’s investigating the incident. Flight 3216 ultimately took off and reached Atlanta without further issues, according to FlightAware.
