The fact that Easter is always on a Sunday gets a lot of risk-averse federal politicians off the hook when it comes to the issue of separation of church and state. With the exception of the impact on government workers who have to work weekends, the politicians don’t really have to take a stand on whether Easter should be a federal holiday. If the holiday weren’t restricted to a Sunday, there would be no small amount of debate, for sure.
Easter is a decidedly Christian religious holiday, Easter Bunny notwithstanding. The vast majority of Americans celebrate it as a religious holiday. The only explicitly religious holiday that is on the federal holiday calendar is Christmas. All of the other 10 federal holidays are secular in nature.
That said, it probably won’t be too long before the left starts to make this an issue, but not in favor of Christians or Jews.
At the federal level, only Congress can create new federal holidays, and of late, no one in Congress has proposed federal recognition of non-Christian holidays, but this is not the case in the states.
Last year, the state of Washington became the first to officially recognize the Muslim Eid holidays. Gov. Bob Ferguson actually signed a bill into law that officially recognized the religious holidays Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as state holidays.
In a statement at the time, the governor’s office said, “Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are among the most significant Islamic holidays, celebrated by millions globally, including more than 100,000 Washingtonians.”
Washington is a state with a population of 8 million, and yet it has decided to dedicate one of its official holidays to a religion practiced by 1.25% of the total population.
For context, Washington recognizes 20 “legal holidays,” which include days where government employees get paid time off, and others where they don’t. This includes all of the federal holidays and some other secular ones, such as Native American Heritage Day, which is the day after Thanksgiving.
The state calendar also includes Easter Sunday, Lunar New Year, and election day (even though elections are no longer one day in many states).
Across the country, New Jersey and Illinois have passed legislation that permits public institutions and schools to formally recognize Eid.
In New York, the city that Mayor Zohran Mamdani now runs, the public schools shut down for the Islamic holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. These are now officially recognized school holidays. Keep in mind, this happened before he took office.
Not surprisingly, Dearborn, Mich. has made Eid a paid holiday for city employees, and this is how Dearborn “public schools” marked the Islamic religious holiday.

That’s where we are to date, but there is movement on the horizon which indicates the campaign to Islamicize American culture is just beginning on the holiday front.
In March, California Democrats introduced legislation to officially recognize the Eid Muslim holidays as state holidays. If it were signed into law, AB 2017 would designate Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as state holidays.

California recognizes all of the federal holidays, along with César Chávez Day, which is March 31. It does not specifically recognize Easter as an official state holiday, paid or unpaid.
For reference, the total Muslim population in California is roughly 500,000, which represents 1.3% of the state’s total population. Compare that to Christians in California, who represent 55% of the state’s total population.
A case can be made that states such as California and Washington are outliers, and that the rest of the country would not follow suit. The Islamification of America is just a figment of your imagination.
