“How blue is California? They’re already voting for the 2028 election, just to make sure the Republican candidate doesn’t get any ideas.”
“How blue is California?” has become a political insider joke. There are 52 congressmen in the state, and 42 are currently Democrats. If Proposition 40 is passed in November, allowing the state to redraw its maps, there would likely be 47 Democrats elected in 2028.
In a state of nearly 40 million people, that would be the mother of all gerrymanders.
However, the relentlessness of California’s Democrats in shoving radical leftist cultural proposals down the throats of the populace may finally be wearing the voters down.
“In California, there is no contest between left and right—only between left and left or, really, left and uber-left,” writes The Free Press’s Peter Savodnik.
In the current politics, the “uber-left” is winning hands down.
“Recent legislation has phased out gas-powered leaf blowers, mandated that prisons house inmates according to their self-identified gender, and banned schools from notifying parents when their children come out as transgender (which the Supreme Court recently struck down),” writes Savodnik. It’s like some idiot child has been put in charge of California’s government, and any crazy, cockamamie, coo-coo-land proposal is not only taken seriously but actually becomes law.
The craziness is carried out with a sublime serenity, as if it’s normal to prevent parents from knowing if their young child is experiencing, what is by definition, a life-altering psychological crisis.
“California is a mess,” Savodnick writes. “The roads and bridges, the homelessness, the public schools (now ranked No. 38 in the nation), the exorbitant price of gas, the outsourcing of Hollywood, the flight of talent and capital, and of course, the state’s feudal real-estate market,” where one in five property transfers occur via inheritance, an unprecedented number.
The California governor’s race is, in the words of Ron Filipowski, the editor in chief of the progressive blog MeidasTouch, “an absolute s**t show,” with eight major candidates splitting the Democratic vote. The current frontrunners, however, are two Republicans.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and Fox News personality Steve Hilton are leading the field for the non-partisan June 2 “Jungle Primary” where the top two finishers, regardless of party, move on to the November election.
The top Democrats in the race, Congressman Eric Swalwell and former Congresswoman Katie Porter, are trailing the two GOP contenders, with 13% of support each. Billionaire Tom Steyer is close behind at 10%. None of the lesser candidates, former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra at 5%, or former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, who are at 4%, are of a mind to drop out despite the state party chair Rusty Hicks asking those without “a viable path” to step aside.
This leaves an opening a mile wide for Bianco and Hilton to claim the top two spots on the November ballot, assuring that a Republican will win the governorship.
Governor Newsom, who is expected to announce his campaign for president after this year’s midterm elections, no longer seems capable of even leading his own state party. He is, like so many of today’s Democrats, a simulacrum of a politician. Not really a leader as much as someone who pretends to be one. That may explain why Democrats are having trouble imposing much order on the gubernatorial field, to say nothing of running the country’s most populous state.
“There’s only the California Dream, attainable and aspirational,” Newsom posted to X in June 2019, just a few months into his tenure as governor. Even then—before Covid, before so-called progressives had embraced the new woke orthodoxy—that sounded a tad delusional. “Around the world,” Newsom went on, “it’s a beacon light. Mark my words, California—we are the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Yes. For Republicans.
