Trump could request $200 billion funding for Iran: ‘Small price’

President Trump confirmed Thursday that he may ask Congress for an additional $200 billion to fund the war in Iran, saying the money is worth every cent because it will ensure the U.S. military has the best equipment available for the conflict.

“It’s a small price to pay to make sure we stay tippy top,” Mr. Trump said during an Oval Office meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

The president said he wants to ensure the military has “vast amounts of ammunition.” Still, he insisted the U.S. isn’t running short of weapons.

“We have a tremendous, unlimited supply of what you call middle and upper armaments and military equipment,” he said. “At the high end, we have a lot, but we’re preserving it.”

The Pentagon asked the White House to approve the $200 billion request to Congress to fund the war.

It’s unclear how much, if any, would be approved by congressional lawmakers. Democrats have been sharply critical of the war, and it’s unclear if there are enough votes in the Senate to approve such a massive funding package.
