A shooting on Tuesday near an Orthodox Jewish synagogue in Baltimore led to injuries to a police officer and the suspect.
The Baltimore Police Department responded to the scene in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue, near the Agudath Israel of Baltimore synagogue, at about 12:30 p.m.
It is unclear if any synagogue services were underway during the incident. Officers had been responding to a possible hostage situation before shots were fired, The Baltimore Sun reported.
The wounded officer was taken to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland, officials said. The condition of the cop and suspect has not been released.
Authorities have urged people to avoid the neighborhood and the surrounding area as they investigate the “active shooter incident.”
