President Donald Trump learned a long time ago that reverse psychology works on the left. All he has to do is take the most common-sense position; then Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) will take over, and the left will take the exact opposite position. This is how he’s been winning on those 80/20 issues.
By arresting Nicolás Maduro, he’s gotten the left to side with murderous drug cartels. By opposing men in women’s sports, he’s gotten the left to dig in on behalf of deviants. By rounding up illegal alien criminals, he’s gotten the left to go crazy in places such as Minnesota and across the country defending rapists and killers.
So it comes as no surprise that when the president announced that just in time for the America 250 celebrations in Washington, D.C., he’s sprucing up the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Trump chose an industrial-grade swimming pool surface in American flag blue. The coating covers the aging granite bottom and seals the leaks.
Trump announced the work on April 23 and set a clear timeline. The job costs around $1.5 million and should finish within weeks. Previous plans called for full granite replacement at roughly $301 million, stretching over many years.
That’s the approach Trump rejected while selecting a faster, cheaper solution that delivers results right away. The pool sits between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument and serves as one of the most recognized landmarks in the country. The renovation keeps it ready for national events and daily visitors.
When I read David’s story, I didn’t give it a whole lot of thought, other than to post a comment under David’s piece that said this was one of the most Trump stories ever.
Since then, that reverse psychology dynamic kicked in. The national TDS club this weekend has two options on the menu. It can (and will) lose it when it hears what Trump has to say at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, or it could totally divorce itself from reality and have a conniption over the Reflecting Pool.
The fake outrage after the Correspondents’ Dinner will have to wait until Saturday night. In the meantime, sit back, pour yourself a fresh cup of coffee, and enjoy watching how Trump is driving the left crazy just by fixing up that iconic landmark in Washington.
Thanks to Trump, an amazing number of leftists have convinced themselves that blue does not reflect, even when they post photos of reflective blue paint, even before the water is poured back into the pool. News flash: blue does reflect, but more importantly, water reflects.

One thing the left loves to do, and is so good at that you don’t notice it until after you’ve accepted their terms, is to fight over imaginary things. In this case, the left is coming up with gaudy AI imagery of the Reflecting Pool, and then acting as if it’s proof that Trump’s finished product is terrible.

It’s a lot easier to win an argument when you make everything up to the extent that you can’t be proven wrong, because nothing has even happened yet.
The most classic example of the left’s propensity to do this is when leftists tell you “Trump will steal your democracy.” That’s not even a thing.
In this post, the Democrats are pretending that an empty reflecting pool (for maintenance) is what it will actually look like when complete.

Do you remember when the left coined the term, “Words are violence,” when in fact the whole point of words is that they are not violence? Now, according to this leftist X user, maintenance is vandalism. He’s another one who thinks dark blue under water doesn’t reflect. He should sue his science teacher for malpractice.

When all is said and done, the Reflecting Pool will be beautiful, and that’s what angers the left most. Trump doesn’t do things their way. He doesn’t spend $300 million and wait years to do something he knows can be done quickly, beautifully, and at a fraction of the cost to taxpayers. In short, he’s making the left look bad, because “the people” can now see things don’t have to be the way they are in Washington.
TDS is real, and it’s only going to get worse. The left is proving it’s not very good at dealing with making America great again.
