I would say that it’s time to reopen the insane asylums, but there wouldn’t be enough space to keep all the crazies locked up. 

I am trying to wrap my head around the increasing frequency and severity of societal manias, and the only thing I can conclude is that, for most people, it is not their rational faculties, but rather social norms set by society and enforced by shame that keep them grounded, and that those social norms have to be grounded in religious values that are held to be authoritative. 





I’m not arguing that because I think the world (and our souls) would be better off if everybody were Christian; I believe that stable, functioning societies can be built on social norms stemming from other religious traditions, although I don’t hold that all are of equal value. 

Nor do I believe that a society based on Christian values cannot fall astray, just as individuals do. Otherwise, civilized societies can fall into moral manias that make us scratch our heads in wonder. Germany, Japan, and China have all gone insane at some point, despite each having long traditions of sophisticated societies with great cultural achievements. 

But it’s pretty clear to me that when fairly rigid, religiously-based, moral structures disperse and become vague or nonexistent, moral chaos and perversion necessarily follow. And over the past century, as Christianity has died as a dominant cultural force, Western societies are morally at sea, and demonic forces have filled the void. 

Now, when I see people saying insane things on TV or on the internet, I know intellectually that their moral frame of reference is the source of that insanity, not necessarily the actual reasoning capabilities of the people spewing nonsense. Within the moral framework within which they are acting, everything makes sense. It’s the perverse framework that needs fixing, at least first. 

Those of us who are more morally grounded or rational look at the Lindsey Clancy case and are astounded by what the jurors and Clancy’s supporters are saying and doing. They, it seems, literally have no care for the children who died, and have focused their entire moral framework on the inherent goodness of Clancy. 





Clancy is a hero to many, not just the copycats proliferating as I write this. The copycat criminals and women who are taking to TikTok to express how much they hate their kids and want to hurt them shouldn’t shock us, given the proliferation of TikTok and the willingness of people to reveal their darkest selves online. 

It’s the seemingly normal women who support Clancy who scare me. They are the same people who support abortion until birth, and apparently beyond, in the name of compassion and goodness. Professional women in the “caring” professions are explaining how wonderful Clancy is, and I have seen some of the jurors explain what a wonderful mother she was before she plotted to strangle her children in cold blood. 

Uh, wut? You would think that the judgment that she was a wonderful mother would include the fact of what she actually did, but instead we get discussions about framed images on her walls, as if a “Live, Laugh, Love” sign excuses manual strangulation of a toddler. 





I don’t use this word flippantly, but this truly is SICKENING.

They have given it a name: “altruistic filicide”.

Altruistic: selfless concern for others.

Filicide: the killing of one’s children.

They have pathologized what would otherwise be brutal murder as “the selfless killing of one’s children”.

We are even beyond “suicidal empathy”. We have literally entered the realm of “homicidal empathy”. Pathologized as “altruistic filicide”

And listen to the mind virus of “virtue signaling” according to this juror (whose last name happens to be Devlin – my goodness the simulation has a sick sense of humor).

Lindsay Clancy was a good mom (despite “viciously killing” her three children – literally the terms used by another juror who also would have found not guilty), because she had a big sign in her house that said “it’s a wonderful life”.

This is their actual thought process.

In their own words.

Sickening.

When jurors speak of murdering one’s children as “altruistic,” and millions of women nod along and shout “you go girl,” it can be seen as a form of mass insanity, but that insanity is grounded in the uprootedness of people’s moral sense. The moral ground has dissolved, and they are free-floating, so they grasp at whatever seems solid in the moment. 





They know “compassion” is a moral good, and there is Lindsay asking for it. So they give it, in much the same way they gave compassion to child predators during the ICE deportations. They see somebody asking for help, and in their minds, giving it is a moral good. It doesn’t matter who they are; they identify with a victim and grasp onto their plight as a moral cause. 

They want to matter. They want to do good so much without having a clear grasp of what good is. They view everything in the oppressor/oppressed framework, and they know that white men are oppressors and that women and minorities are oppressed. 

Reality doesn’t intervene, and they have no common sense because common sense is built on a foundation that has long since dissolved. Everything is raw feelings. 

It wouldn’t have surprised me to learn that one juror was holding out for a not guilty by reason of insanity verdict, but at first it genuinely shocked me that it was one juror holding out for guilty, because the facts of the case were so clear. 





But after consideration, it sort of makes sense. It is like the trans mania, or COVID, where people have lost all grasp on common sense because they have lost the points of reference that make common sense common. Instead, people search for social validation, and strong personalities can impose it on them and have the masses follow. 

It is the psychology of cults, only society-wide. People who are lost, looking for guidance. 

ObGyn, who has three children, says she is “proud” of Lindsay Clancy, who is on trial for strangling her three children to death with exercise bands.

“… I don’t know what else you could have done. You were far beyond what should be expected of a single individual.”

“I’m not quite ready to tell my story yet. But when I eventually do, it’s going to be because you came first…”

Ironically, the psychology itself is psychotic, if by psychosis we mean the complete break with reality. It leads people to start spewing nonsense about “altruistic filicide” because they have lost all sense of what is up and what is down, what is solid ground and what isn’t. They are floating in a sea of TikTok videos, and that is the real world for them. They gravitate to whatever the cult thinks. 





They drink the moral Kool-Aid. 

This psychiatrist seems to have captured the group dynamic involved; it had nothing to do with the case, but with the group dynamics that led everybody to conform to the group. It reminds me of the COVID hysteria, where conformity was the measure of morality. 

The most revealing part of the Lindsay Clancy juror interviews wasn’t the viral line about the holdout juror.

It was the coffee cart. The “we read him.” The frustration that he wouldn’t join the group.

In this episode I explain what that reveals about conformity, the “good mother” halo, what the prosecution was really fighting—and how the holdout juror might actually have persuaded the women to side with him.

Conform to the group, because the group now determines what is good and evil, and if you aren’t in the group, you are siding with evil. 

It’s “wear the mask!” “Get the shot!” 





I see no end to it. How could there be, short of civilizational suicide? I fear that is where we are headed.
