The Karmelo Anthony Trial Shows Everything That Is Wrong With Race Relations – HotAir

I’ve written a lot about crime in recent months, not because I am obsessed with crime in general, nor because I find most crimes interesting in any way beyond wanting it to be reduced as much as possible.

I don’t follow crime blogs, don’t care about “True Crime” stuff, and my only interest in killers is seeing them rot away in prison or in the ground.

My recent interest in crime stories has to do with the pathologies they reveal in society, not the criminals, and the Karmelo Anthony case reveals an awful lot of them. Anthony is, in himself, boring, at least in the sense that he is a teen thug from central casting. A dime a dozen, and if he had committed his crime in a dark alley nobody would have heard of it or him.

But because he stabbed a white boy at a track meet, he became a hero to millions. His supporters have donated about $700,000, and he has been living in a new house with lots of new swag while awaiting trial.

He walked into a tent exclusively set aside for the members of a track team from another school, refused to leave when asked, and stabbed Austin Metcalf. He then calmly walked away.

The trial just began, and it features all the drama you would expect, with charges of racism flying all over the place. Crowds of supporters are confronting people outside the courthouse, shouting epithets and making threats, egged on by Anthony’s lawyer, who begins his PR campaign with, of course, a racially-charged lie.

An all‑white jury has now been seated in the Karmelo Anthony trial.

Twelve jurors, not a single Black member.

Karmelo Anthony was 17 years old when he fatally stabbed Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas in April 2025. He is now 19 and standing trial as an adult, facing first‑degree murder charges. Karmelo has maintained from the beginning that he acted in self‑defense after being grabbed and threatened.

The prosecution struck all qualified Black jurors from the panel. The defense filed a Batson challenge citing racial discrimination in the jury selection process.

Tomorrow morning, I will stand before this panel and deliver opening statements on Karmelo’s behalf.

I first read that Anthony’s jury was “all-white” and was somewhat surprised for obvious reasons. After all, if that were true, it would feed into every racial accusation you would expect, just as Anthony’s lawyer is doing here.

Except, of course, it is not true. There are, indeed, no black people on the jury, but they were excluded after they said they weren’t sure they could convict a black man and send him to prison out of racial solidarity.

This happened in the OJ Simpson trial, where jurors admitted they thought that OJ was guilty, but they wanted payback.

Seems like a sound reason to exclude these people as jurors.

The jury is not “all white.” It just excludes people who told the court a priori that they were likely to exonerate Karmelo Anthony regardless of the evidence. Claiming that it is serves the obvious purpose of inflaming people who want the same “payback” that the OJ Simpson jurors successfully got.

Outside the courthouse there is a large crowd of supporters confronting people with threats, suggesting more than a little bit that their support for Anthony is not because they believe he is innocent, but because they like that he killed a white boy, and wish that they could do the same.

One of the most shocking things I witnessed today was this woman in pink screaming “you gon end up like Metcalf, you gone be pushing up daisies”.

I caught the tail end of her saying this to Metcalf supporters in the clip below.

I also witnessed several Karmelo supporters get extremely aggressive when ANY media tried speaking with them.

One female reporter went up to the group to ask questions (linked below) and they immediately got angry saying “we told y’all to stop coming the f*ck over here” (this was her first attempt at speaking to them).

At this point I started warning every reporter who was trying to speak with this group, as earlier, another local reporter had tapped on the shoulder of the man who leads their chants. This man immediately squared up and acted like the reporter had punched him.

I’ve been covering protests for 7 years and this is some of the most violent and racially charged rhetoric I’ve ever encountered.

Marinate for a moment in the message these people are sending. While they may parrot the claim that Anthony killed Metcalf in “self defense,” it’s obvious that their version of “self-defense” is a world without white people. “The only good cracker is a dead cracker” is explicit enough, but the glee with which the Karmelo crowd talks about dead white people is really startling.

A white person’s mere presence brings the reaction “you gon end up like Metcalf; you gone be pushing up daisies.”

These are the same people who are claiming that Karmelo Anthony is a sweet young man who was simply defending themselves. Make of that what you will.

So far it looks like the key claim the defense has made is that a video from across the field shows Anthony was attacked has fallen apart. The video shows nothing but blurry pixels that say nothing.

The reigning ideology that controls all institutions in my country tells me that I’m supposed to believe we’re all just Americans who want the same thing.

But that is so obviously a lie that it doesn’t even merit refutation any longer. Reality itself refutes it.

There is no lofty cosmopolitan rhetoric that can ever pull the wool over people’s eyes forever. No amount of liberal proceduralism or woke moralizing is ever going to convince people to ignore what they see and hear with their own eyes and ears.

This man is not “my fellow American” and we do not have any shared interests whatsoever. We occupy the same landmass. That’s it.

And geography alone does not hold a nation together for long.

So it will all come down to theater and threats, unless there is some bombshell evidence we have heard nothing about.

We’ve seen this movie before, and it will not end well. Karmelo Anthony’s supporters don’t care about the evidence. They just want more dead “crackers.”
