For a year or two now, I have been banging the drum about how the European transnationalists are becoming what amounts to enemies of the United States.
It has given me no pleasure, mainly because, having grown up in the 1980s, I still had a great deal of respect for NATO as an institution, even though the European peace movements were annoying. Reagan and Thatcher got them into line, and the result was victory. It’s hard not to cheer for that.
But now, Europe is filled with petulant budding totalitarians whose main concern seems to be destroying our civilization through regulation, importing hostile Muslims, and putting their own people in jail for wrongthink. Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher have been replaced by Two-Tier Keir.
“Special relationship,” my arse.
Attacks on Americans’ freedom of speech, a Constitutional right and a bedrock of our political system, were enough of a casus belli for me to want to leave NATO, but the recent outright hostility of our European allies has likely doomed the North Atlantic alliance. Our so-called allies have reached out to China and given us the middle finger.
A European mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz apparently conceived by Macron
– taking place only AFTER hostilities have ceased
– only operating with Iran’s agreement
– explicitly excluding the US
– China is invited to participatehttps://t.co/KWbzMBGTL2— Ulrich Speck (@ulrichspeck) April 15, 2026
The irony is thick with this move. Trump asked for help to open the Strait, and Europeans refused. Now, the petulant bastards are going to wait for the United States to do the job and swoop in to claim victory. While not surprisingly, giving Iran a helping hand, since they “demand” that Iran retain some control over the Strait.
What? They think they are going to fight the US Navy?
🚨 THE UAE JUST WENT FULL PRO-TRUMP!
Iran is going to be furious after learning the United Arab Emirates said they will JOIN America to use military force, if required, in the Persian Gulf while Trump blockades the Strait
The regime is totally CORNERED. 🔥

It’s an empty gesture, and one that will be unwelcome by the Gulf states, who rightly feel betrayed by Europe. The UAE is joining with the United States to keep the Strait open, and the Saudis are anxious to counter Iran as well. So far, neither has been so disturbed by the economic price they are currently paying because they see it as an investment in future security. A price of war, and a war that they want finished.

France wanted to butt into the talks between Lebanon and Israel, and both countries told Macron to butt out. Nobody cared what France thought, despite France supposedly having deep and long-standing ties to Lebanon. Both countries basically laughed in Macron’s face.
Exclusive: Europe is accelerating a fallback plan for NATO in case President Trump pulls out of the alliance https://t.co/g1PR1U1N1A

Europeans are, ironically, being forced by Trump to do what Americans have been demanding for decades: step up. The problem they have is that the steps they have to climb are very steep and very numerous.
The challenge is enormous. NATO’s entire structure is built around American leadership at almost every level, from logistics and intelligence to the alliance’s top military command.
Europeans are now trying to shoulder more of those responsibilities, which Trump has long demanded. The alliance will be “more European-led,” its Secretary-General Mark Rutte said recently.
The difference now is that Europeans are taking steps under their own initiative, due to Trump’s growing hostility, rather than as a result of U.S. goading. In recent days, Trump branded European allies as “cowards” and called NATO a paper tiger, adding, in reference to Russian President Vladimir Putin: “Putin knows that too.”
“A burden shifting from the U.S. toward Europe is ongoing and it will continue…as part of U.S. defense and national security strategy,” said Finland’s president, Alexander Stubb, one of the leaders involved in the plans.
NATO is becoming crippled because it is shunning the United States. The European countries seem determined to replace the United States with China as its security partner, which is perhaps one of the worst bargains in world history. The United States can make bilateral deals to secure bases, move troops out of less friendly countries, and accelerate Europe’s economic decline. Europe has much, much more to lose than the United States if NATO loses US support.
🚨 PRESIDENT TRUMP JUST UNLOADED ON NATO
“If they’re not going to be with us on Iran, they’re not going to be with us on a much bigger subject than Iran!”
“We’ve had no help, zero from NATO. We’re there for them, they’re not there for us!”

“We spend, you saw the chart that came out a couple of days ago, with a big monster red ball, that was us, and all these little satellite balls, and it represented the money spent on military and NATO, and it’s ridiculous. And they should have been better.”
“They should have said, we’ll send somebody. It’s a small operation compared to a big operation. But NATO was not there for us.”
The irony is that Trump is not that “mercurial,” as the accusation goes. He is quite easy to deal with. Flatter him, give him a decent deal, and he will work with you and treat you like kings. If you anger him, he lashes out, and you will regret it.
Putting this on repeat because a) it’s hilarious b) it’s true c) it’s applicable to almost any national security, foreign policy issue pic.twitter.com/D1LxuJKjgP

Europeans can’t do the latter because they feel they are superior to the US, and especially to Trump, who they see as a buffoon. They prefer a Joe Biden-type president who drools and does what they want.

Like all socialist types, their belief is that what is theirs is theirs, and what is yours is theirs. They do not believe our relationship should be transactional, but one-way.
Mark Rutte understands Trump, and if the Euro-Weinies followed his lead, everything would be fine.
Instead, the Euros want to go their own way, and will discover that while their bark is still loud, their bite is pretty feeble.
