Second Lady Shares a Lesson for Children with Cheryl Hines

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Second Lady Usha Vance hosted Cheryl Hines, wife of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy’, on her podcast to read “The Three Little Pigs.”

Vance and Hines discussed their respective backgrounds and taught children the lesson of courage in adversity through the recording of “Storytime with the Second Lady” released Friday.

“We’re not really building our own houses with straw and bricks,” Hines said, “but we are building our lives the way that we want them to be, and we want to be strong and we want to be able to overcome our fear.”

Hines said the story was one of her favorites in childhood. She also said she enjoyed Dr. Seuss books like “Green Eggs and Ham.”

The second lady launched the podcast as an attempt to instill a love of reading in America’s youth.

Hines said “Three Little Pigs” teaches children it’s OK to be scared.

“We’re all scared sometimes,” she said. “And when you’re scared, if you stay calm and think about your next move, what you’re going to do, how you’re going to get through a scary situation, you will always end up on top. And that’s what fables do, right?”

Vance asked Hines if she always wanted to be an actress. Hines is most recognized for her leading role in the TV series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

“Since I was a little kid, I knew I wanted to be an actor,” she said, “and my sister and I would write little sketches, and we’d act them out for our parents.”
