Scooter-riding woman dies after hit by bus at crosswalk in Virginia

A woman struck by a bus while riding an electric scooter in Rosslyn, Virginia, died from her injuries, the Arlington County Police Department said Tuesday.

Leah Carlomusto, 45, died in the hospital Sunday from her critical injuries, the exact nature of which the police did not specify.

She was riding the scooter through a crosswalk in Rosslyn at around 5:30 p.m. on April 18 when she was hit by a charter bus.

Bus driver Luis Irizarry, 45, a resident of Haines City, Florida, near Orlando, is accused of hitting Ms. Carlomusto when turning right from Fort Myer Drive onto Langston Boulevard without properly giving her the right of way, police said.

Mr. Irizarry, who stayed on the scene following the collision, was written a citation for failure to yield and was released on summons, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information on the collision call 703-228-4185.
