It has been something of a revelation to see liberals get upset by Donald Trump cleaning up the District.
I can understand the consternation about the arch that Trump wants to put up, even though the argument that it will overshadow the entrance to the Arlington National Cemetery is total bunk. Either you like it, or you don’t. Personally, I think it is a bit gaudy, but compared to any building or monument that the liberals put up in recent decades, it is a masterpiece.
Given that the Obama Presidential Center looks like a maximum security prison in a future dystopia, and the Martin Luther King statue in Boston looks like a sex act that used to be illegal in Southern states being portrayed, I’d shut up about artistic design if I were Democrats. 
But it’s not the arch that Democrats are complaining most vociferously about. It is the reflecting pool cleanup and repair, which any fair person would acknowledge was long overdue, and which the Obama administration screwed up royally, although, to be fair, I doubt Obama had anything to do with that fiasco. It was pure bureaucratic malfeasance, as so often happens.
In 2012, CNN interviewed D.C. residents about Obama’s $34 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which left it dirty, smelly, and filled with algae.

The pool was leaking to the tune of millions of gallons of water, and didn’t do its one job: reflect, and do so in a way that caught the eye and not the nose.
None of that matters to liberals, who have one guiding principle when it comes to anything: if Trump likes it, it must be awful.

Whatever else you think of Donald Trump, his cleaning up the tourist areas of Washington D.C. should be welcomed by both visitors and residents of D.C.

Union Station, within walking distance of both the White House and the Capitol building, was a mess. Homeless tents, a fountain that hadn’t worked in God knows how long, and it was not a safe place anymore. When I first visited D.C., it was a hot place to go. Last time I went to D.C., I wouldn’t have gone there for any reason. It was literally surrounded by homeless tents, and they would go into Union Station and bathe at the water fountains.
Since President Trump has surged the National Guard into the city, crime has dropped like a rock onto a high-gravity world, and places that were once ugly and dangerous are now looking like a First World capital city once again.
Still, Democrats would rather wallow in filth and enjoy the ambiance created by drug addicts and homeless people than admit that Trump has done ANYTHING right.
It’s civilizational suicide.
