Ordering ‘Zionists’ into camps? Demanding to sterilize them? Something about Maureen Galindo’s platform has a familiar ring to it. Add in some Totenkopf imagery, and the picture becomes complete.
Oh, wait …
It’s not just Maine Kampf for Democrats in this cycle. Galindo may win a runoff election next week in Texas’ new 35th congressional district, representing part of San Antonio. Galindo won the plurality of the vote in the March primary in an otherwise tight four-way race. She faces Bexar (pronounced ‘bear’) County sheriff Johnny Garcia in the runoff next week; Garcia only trailed Galindo by 1200 votes. Galindo apparently wants to distinguish herself among Texas Democrats, and has decided to do so by going the Full Platner.
Or the Full Heydrich, it seems:
Controversy-tarred congressional candidate Maureen Galindo this week pledged to transform a site south of San Antonio now used by the Trump administration to detain migrants into an internment camp for “American Zionists.”
“She’ll turn Karnes ICE Detention Center into a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers for human trafficking,” Galindo wrote in an Instagram post over the weekend, referring to herself in the third person. “It will also be a castration processing center for pedophiles, which will probably be most of the Zionists.” …
Over the past week, Galindo has accused her runoff opponent — former Bexar County Public Information Officer Johnny Garcia — of participating in a human trafficking conspiracy orchestrated by billionaire zionist Jews. She also pledged during a Texas Public Radio interview to put Garcia on trial for treason.
Beyond her attacks on Garcia, Galindo has continued to promote the narrative that a cabal of Jewish zionists controls Hollywood, the media and even local politicians.
As I wrote last night in the Final Word, I just can’t wait for the Obama Bros who demanded we contextualize Platner’s Nazi tattoo to defend Galindo for thinking out of the box. If she wins the runoff, the Platner shift will begin in earnest.
Surely we jest, readers may think at this point. No politician would be stupid enough to post this message. Not only did Galindo post it over the weekend, it’s still up on Instagram. Here’s a screenshot from earlier today, just in case Galindo gets a belated wakeup call from one of her few active brain cells:
Believe it or not, the reaction from commenters is … mixed. Many Instagram users call her an “idiot,” and her post “deranged,” and a few of them recommend psychiatric help. More than a few, though, are encouraging Galindo to continue, calling this “awesome” and pronouncing themselves “Team Maureen.” One commented, “I’ve never wanted to live in San Antonio more than I do now — you have my vote.”
Isn’t it amazing the kind of politics we get when we start attempting to “contextualize” Totenkopfs?
Some Democrats have tried to denounce Galindo, but at the same time accuse Republicans of propping her up to discredit the party and get an easy general-election opponent:
A flood of Democrats, from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez to Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico, have condemned Galindo’s comments. And they’ve slammed Republicans for their seeming affiliation with the pop-up PAC spending hundreds of thousands on Galindo’s candidacy. …
Lead Left PAC appears to be tied to the GOP; Punchbowl News reported that the metadata on its website initially linked to WinRed, a major Republican donation platform. Lead Left PAC has not responded to questions about its donors or what entities are behind it.
The PAC has spent nearly $600,000 on broadcast and cable, and additional funds on mailers boosting Galindo and bashing Garcia.
Madison Andrus, a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesperson, called seeming GOP interference on Galindo’s behalf “extremely dangerous.”
“No matter what your politics are, using virulent antisemitism for your own partisan gain is nothing short of disgusting,” Andrus said.
Actually, I tend to agree with that statement. I understand the strategy – Claire McCaskill pioneered it with Todd Akin – but it plays with fire at a time when kindling is already heavily smoking. If Republicans are keeping Galindo afloat, it’s long past time to let her sink.
I’m a little mystified by Democrats making this argument, though, after embracing the Hamasniks over the last three years, turning a terror propagandist at Columbia University into a cause celebre on immigration, and demonizing AIPAC the last several years. I don’t recall Democrats throwing Ilhan Omar out of the party for her virulently anti-Semitic remarks a few years back. They seem very content to back anti-Semitic Islamists in Michigan at all levels of politics, including Senate primary candidate Abdul el-Sayed, and incumbent House member Rashida Tlaib from Dearbornistan. Democrats running for the House and Senate campaign with Hasan Piker without blinking at his anti-Semitism.
Galindo isn’t an anomaly. She may be a little further down the spectrum from Piker, Tlaib, and el-Sayed, but she’s part of the same category. This is who Democrats are. And Galindo won’t be the last Democrat proposing concentration camps and the sterilization of their political enemies.
