Guido Reichstadter, who climbed up the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington to protest the Iran war, is facing charges after going back down on Wednesday.
The Metropolitan Police Department told Washington’s WJLA-TV that Mr. Reichstadter is facing misdemeanor charges for obstruction, unlawful entry and failing to obey a police officer.
Mr. Reichstadter climbed up the bridge, unfurled a black banner last Friday and remained on the bridge through Wednesday.
MDP referred to his multiday protest as a “barricade situation” and closed off parts of South Capitol Street SE, going across the bridge multiple times during the incident.

Mr. Reichstadter anticipated facing charges. In a Tuesday post on X announcing he’d be getting off the bridge the next day, he noted, “I’ll probably be going to jail for a while when I get down.”
Previously, Mr. Reichstadter climbed the same bridge in 2022 to protest the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
For that, the Superior Court of the District of Columbia handed down a suspended sentence of 90 days for unlawful entry, a $50 fine and 18 months’ probation, according to court records.
