As Biden said, he’s the “dream.”
Obama is the reflection of the elite in the mirror, only better, because he has skin darker than their own.

Obama’s power over the elite has everything to do with the class image he projects. He is smooth, says exactly what they want to hear, and the fact that almost none of it is true is no barrier to his influence over them; it is a bonus, because he strokes their desire for things that are in themselves impossible, or too messy to consider without self-deception.
They love Obama because they love being gaslit.

Obama can sit down with an interlocutor and say the most outrageously untrue things, and the crowd goes wild. Obamacare was sold as a lie, and its architects even admitted as such, joking about how it was too complicated for the ordinary person to figure out.

That’s why Obama has remained the top man in the Democratic Party in a way no prior president has. We are ten years out, and Obama is still the guy the Democrats trot out to soothe the liberals as the party becomes ever more abusive and extreme.
Obama abused his power in a way that would have made Nixon or Johnson blush. He orchestrated a multi-year hoax campaign against Donald Trump, helping create the hoaxes, setting in motion investigations that would plague Trump for over a decade, and splitting the country in two.

I think what is so attractive about the Obama aura is that it combines an air of class and respectability with a ruthlessness that most liberals would love to unleash in themselves. They can lecture us about norms and the rule of law as they send the brownshirts to round us up.

Ironically, Obama’s time as the top dog in the Democratic Party is passing because the base of the Party no longer cares about maintaining an aura of class. Obama gave an aura of respectability to massive abuses of power. These days, you don’t have to be clean and articulate and respectable; you can wear a Nazi tattoo.

But Obama no longer reflects the aspirations of the new Democrats, who are gravitating to Mamdani, Platner, el-Sayid, and Hasan Piker. Obama is cozying up to Mamdani because he is smooth, but to the extent that an exchange of influence happens, it will be from Mamdani to Obama, and not the other way around.
The new generation of Democrats isn’t so interested in gaslighting, which was Obama’s superpower. They will tell you to your face that they want you dead.
