Trump demands Microsoft fire former Biden Justice Department official Lisa Monaco

President Trump on Friday demanded that Microsoft fire Lisa Monaco, who served as deputy attorney general during the Biden administration.

“She is a menace to U.S. National Security, especially given the major contracts that Microsoft has with the United States Government,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Because of Monaco’s many wrongful acts, the U.S. Government recently stripped her of all security clearances, took away all her access to National Security Intelligence and banned her from all federal properties.”

“It is my opinion that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco,” Mr. Trump added, calling her “corrupt and totally Trump deranged.”

Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

At the Justice Department, Ms. Monaco was involved in the Jan. 6 prosecutions, the raid on Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida, and the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith to investigate Mr. Trump.

Some federal agencies use Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and productivity software. Earlier this month, Microsoft agreed to offer $3.1 billion in savings in one year on cloud services for the federal government to use.

Earlier Friday, Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo published an X post about Ms. Monaco joining Microsoft as president of global affairs. Ms. Monaco’s LinkedIn profile indicates that she landed the job in July, and Ms. Bartiromo’s post included a link to a University of Chicago law school article published that month.

On Thursday, Microsoft said it would cut off cloud-based storage and artificial intelligence subscriptions to a unit of the Israeli military amid allegations that the division was using the technology to track Palestinians’ phone calls.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella attended a dinner with other technology executives at the White House earlier this month.

Mr. Trump’s call for Ms. Monaco’s firing comes one day after federal prosecutors indicted former FBI Director James Comey as he continues to target government officials he says wronged him.

Ms. Monaco is not the first executive at a major tech company that Mr. Trump has sought to fire. Earlier this year, he demanded the resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, only to praise Mr. Tan days later and invite him to the White House.
