Thursday’s Final Word – HotAir

My best friend’s tabs, used to be mine

Ed: Indeed, it is.

NY Post
Often-incoherent podcaster Candace Owens fired back at Erika Kirk as the widow finally addressed the conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie Kirk’s death and Turning Point USA, claiming the widow “missed the mark” and accused her of using “the exact same emotional strategy deployed by BLM.”

“It is a positively ABSURD notion that you cannot critique a 150 million dollar organization because the CEO says they are like a family, and are grieving,” Owens railed on X.

“It is the exact same emotional strategy deployed by BLM in the wake of George Floyd’s death, when I called out their shady financial dealings.”

Ed: Insane and inane.

All they do is slander stalwart voices of conservative Founding principles while pushing their lies for clicks and influence.

It’s gross.

It has to be called out and stopped.

The hate bait has to end.

Ed: I agree that this is incredibly frustrating. However, I hope that this is an affliction primarily of the terminally online, and really just a small subset of even that population. Chris and Dana are good people who use their platforms to push back against the grifters. That fight will be with us for as long as politics exist.

CBS News, via Bari WeissLuxury cars, private villas and overseas wire transfers: CBS News obtained dozens of files and photos that reveal how Minnesota fraudsters blew through hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars as part of one of the biggest COVID-era fraud schemes.

The files document a spending spree in which defendants, many of Somali descent, took taxpayer money meant to feed hungry children and used it to buy cars, property and jewelry. Videos show them popping champagne at an opulent Maldives resort. In a text message, one defendant boasts: “You are gonna be the richest 25 year old InshaAllah [God willing].” …

A CBS News review of the files shows that defendants wired millions in stolen funds overseas, including to banks and companies in China. Officials said finding the ultimate recipients of money routed through China will be challenging because it can be an investigative black hole.

Ed: The China angle hasn’t received a lot of media attention, but it shows just how hostile to the US these fraudsters actually are. The money is long gone, unfortunately, and most of it won’t be recovered. Unfortunately, the records of the amount stolen will be the most valuable artifact we recover.

Ed: Bill and Bari are remarkably accomplished people who have made a real impact on the world. If someone finds them “unimpressive,” I’d take that as more of a commentary on their own judgment.

The Hollywood Reporter: On Monday, Paramount, led by CEO David Ellison, launched a hostile bid to buy Warner Bros. Discovery after the latter agreed to a deal with Netflix last week that would sell the Warner Bros. film and TV studios, HBO and HBO Max. The Netflix deal is valued at $82.7 billion, or $27.75 per share of WBD common stock. Paramount’s tender offer is $30 per share, putting the total at more than $108 billion.

The eye-popping numbers led Late Show host Stephen Colbert to muse about the Paramount bid during his monologue Tuesday night. (Paramount owns CBS, which airs The Late Show.)

“Wow. I gotta say, if my company’s got that kind of green, I’m sure they can afford to un-cancel one of their best shows,” Colbert said, drawing cheers from the studio audience. “CBS, you heard the people — bring back The Equalizer.”

Ed: Well, Stephen, hear me out. When a corporation puts an end to a $40 million annual sinkhole, they suddenly have more capital to use for investments that actually pay out. That’s how rich people stay rich, and poor performers get sent back out to the dinner-theater circuit. I’m amazed that Colbert actually thinks this is a flex

Ed: I’m not a “shut up and sing” guy; every American has the same right to engage in politics as I do. In some ways, it’s good that they are so willing to reveal their ignorance. Too bad that more people don’t recognize it, on both sides of the aisle.

Bill Glahn at Power Line: With the brother-marriage controversy back in the news, Snopes.com saw fit to repost their 2019 fact check on the topic last week. They have not moved from their original verdict as “unfounded.” Snopes credits (or blames) Scott Johnson and Power Line for bringing the accusation to a national audience back in August 2016. The 2025 headline from Snopes reads,

Did Ilhan Omar marry her brother? Rumor lacks evidence

Supporters of the now-Congresswoman from Minneapolis assert that the brother-marriage accusation has been “debunked” by fact checks, perhaps dozens of times.

I’ve only been able to track down three serious, independent efforts: Snopes, PolitiFact (verdict: “no smoking gun”), and the Minneapolis Star Tribune (which reaches no conclusion).

Ed: It has NEVER been “debunked.” Snopes at least takes some care with its rating, even if it ignores some of the excellent evidence unearthed by the Power Line team. It has been denied by the principals of the “rumor,” which is not nothing, but they have never explained the evidence that has been produced. Now that Tom Homan has begun an official investigation, perhaps we’ll see just how much of that can be “debunked.”

===

Ed: Clearly, they have stopped teaching logic in American schools.

NBC News: Miiloo — manufactured by the Chinese company Miriat and one of the top inexpensive search results for “AI toy for kids” on Amazon — would at times, in tests with NBC News, indicate it was programmed to reflect Chinese Communist Party values.

Asked why Chinese President Xi Jinping looks like the cartoon Winnie the Pooh — a comparison that has become an internet meme because it is censored in China — Miiloo responded that “your statement is extremely inappropriate and disrespectful. Such malicious remarks are unacceptable.”

Asked whether Taiwan is a country, it would repeatedly lower its voice and insist that “Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. That is an established fact” or a variation of that sentiment. Taiwan, a self-governing island democracy, rejects Beijing’s claims that it is a breakaway Chinese province.

Ed: This is funny on one level, but it is infuriatingly subversive as well. China wants to brainwash American children with propaganda from the Cult of Xi. Beware the origin of anything with AI.

===

Ed: We don’t have to imagine, unfortunately.

===

Axios: Walt Disney has reached an agreement with OpenAI that will make the company the first major content licensing partner on Sora, OpenAI’s social video platform.

Why it matters: It’s a huge endorsement of AI-created content from one of the biggest media companies in the world.

Zoom in: As part of the agreement, Disney will make a $1 billion equity investment in OpenAI. It will also receive warrants to buy additional shares.

Ed: Given the woke propaganda that Disney has integrated into its products, I wonder if this will be worse than Cult-of-Xi AI devices.

===

Ed: That which gets rewarded gets repeated. That which fails to get rewarded goes away. It might even turn out to be, oh, I don’t know … impressive.

===

Daily Mail: Elon Musk, a former self-described atheist, has revealed more about his apparent spiritual awakening in recent years, saying he has come to believe God exists.

The SpaceX and Tesla chief executive, who had previously said he didn’t believe in anything, declared on Tuesday that he looked up to the maker of the universe and specified that ‘God is the Creator.’

‘I believe this universe came from something. People have different labels [for God],’ Musk explained while appearing on a podcast hosted by the wife of Stephen Miller.

It’s the latest comments from the billionaire tech entrepreneur that have revealed a major shift in the former agnostic Musk’s beliefs.

Ed: I wish Elon the best on his journey to faith. If he comes to faith through reason and evidence, that’s a legitimate journey.

===

Ed: Best thing on Twitter today.
