In a notable blend of Hollywood and politics, acclaimed director Steven Spielberg is collaborating with President Biden‘s reelection campaign, specifically offering strategic input for the Democratic National Convention slated for August.
The development, first reported by Puck, underscores Mr. Spielberg’s long-standing support for Mr. Biden and his active involvement in the political landscape.
Sources close to the matter revealed to NBC News that Mr. Spielberg has been a participant in preliminary discussions with the event’s organizers. Despite his historical contribution of producing a film for Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008, there are currently no plans for him to undertake a similar project for this year’s convention.
The involvement of Mr. Spielberg, among other high-profile figures, highlights the continued intersection between entertainment industry stalwarts and political campaigns.
Mr. Spielberg was notably present at a fundraising event for Mr. Biden held in December in the Los Angeles area, which also saw attendance from celebrities like Barbra Streisand, Rob Reiner and David Geffen, further emphasizing the mutual support between Mr. Biden and the entertainment community.
Jeffrey Katzenberg, a close friend of Mr. Spielberg and his former business partner at DreamWorks, is playing a significant role as a co-chair of the Biden campaign. Mr. Katzenberg also hosted a fundraising meeting at his home, contributing to the campaign’s fundraising efforts in Los Angeles.
Separately, the Biden campaign is engaging in talks to potentially have Mr. Obama join Mr. Biden for a fundraiser in Los Angeles in mid-June, a move that would reunite the former running mates in support of Biden‘s reelection efforts. The event is expected to be hosted by Mr. Katzenberg and actor George Clooney, showcasing the campaign’s ability to mobilize support among influential and high-profile figures.
