Parts of the central U.S. were left bereft of critical climate warnings after the National Weather Service suffered a five-hour network outage.
The blackout occurred at 1 a.m. Central Daylight Time Tuesday and jarred radar, according to E&E News.
At the same time, tornadoes hit Oklahoma and Missouri and hail covered Illinois, Texas and Kansas, according to reports that were working from the NWS Storm Prediction Center.
NWS ultimately solved the issue by moving services from College Park, Maryland, to Boulder, Colorado, with operations back to normal by 6:30 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time Tuesday, NWS spokesman Michael Musher told multiple outlets.
The service is working with its network vendor to figure out what caused the outage, Mr. Musher added.
