‘Music to my ears’: Trump cheers Senate passing of his big bill

President Trump on Tuesday celebrated Senate Republicans handing him a legislative win by passing his “big, beautiful bill.”

It was a hard-fought victory for Senate GOP leaders who had to sway several holdouts during more than 24 hours of voting and dealmaking. The bill passed 51-50, with Vice President J.D. Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.

“Almost all of our Great Republicans in the United States Senate have passed our ‘ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL.’ It is no longer a ‘House Bill’ or a ‘Senate Bill’. It is everyone’s Bill,” Mr. Trump wrote on social media.

“There is so much to be proud of, and EVERYONE got a major Policy WIN — But, the Biggest Winner of them all will be the American People, who will have Permanently Lower Taxes, Higher Wages and Take Home Pay, Secure Borders, and a Stronger and More Powerful Military,” he wrote. “Additionally, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security Benefits are not being cut, but are being STRENGTHENED and PROTECTED from the Radical and Destructive Democrats by eliminating Waste, Fraud, and Abuse from those Programs.”

The president also railed against potential grandstanders, as the bill now heads back to the House for approval before it lands on the president’s desk. Time is ticking on his self-imposed deadline of July 4 to sign the legislation into law.

He said: “We are on schedule — Let’s keep it going, and be done before you and your family go on a July 4th vacation. The American People need and deserve it. They sent us here to, GET IT DONE!”

“Our Country is going to explode with Massive Growth, even more than it already has since I was Re-Elected. Between the Growth, this Bill, our Tariffs, and more, ‘THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL’ sets the United States down a fiscal path by greatly reducing our Federal Deficit, and setting us on course for enormous Prosperity in the new and wonderful Golden Age of America.”

Mr. Trump urged his GOP friends in the House to “Stay UNITED, have fun, and Vote ‘YAY.’”

The Senate could only afford to lose three GOP votes, and they failed to persuade GOP Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine and Thom Tillis of North Carolina to back the bill.

Mr. Trump was in Florida on Tuesday touring the new migrant detention facility that has been dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz.”

When alerted to the bill’s passing in the Senate while speaking at a roundtable, Mr. Trump said it was “Music to my ears.”
