Missing Chantilly man found dead in submerged car in Occoquan River

An elderly Chantilly man reported missing last week was found dead in a submerged car in the Occoquan River in Lorton, Virginia, on Monday.

Fairfax County Police Department investigators fished out a car from the river near Old Colchester Road and found Quang Hang, 78, dead inside.

County police said no foul play was suspected and that the investigation into Mr. Hang’s precise cause of death is ongoing.

He went missing on Dec. 1 after going out for a vehicle inspection in Leesburg, the Fairfax County Police Department said.

Mr. Hang’s daughter Betsy Hang told Washington’s WRC-TV during the search that she thought her father, who suffered from memory loss, took a wrong turn and drove in the opposite direction of Leesburg.

The Virginia State Police upgraded his status to “critically missing” on Wednesday.

Fairfax police continued looking by land, water and air until they found the car.
