Man arrested in Los Angeles area, charged with stealing luxury goods, jewelry worth millions

A man is facing burglary charges after police found over $6 million in cash, designer handbags, jewelry and watches at his Los Angeles area home.

Police in El Segundo, just south of Los Angeles International Airport, announced the arrest Thursday.

They began investigating in January after the suspect purportedly broke into a home and stole over $600,000 worth of the handbags and jewelry.

On Feb. 25, the El Segundo police, along with other area officers, got a warrant and searched the man’s residence in Temecula, 90 miles southeast of El Segundo. The suspect was arrested at that time.

The police said they found over 100 Chanel, Hermes Birkin and Louis Vuitton handbags, 22 high-end watches, 20 guns, jewelry, gold coinage and over $800,000 in cash. It all added up to over $6 million.

The suspect, whom El Segundo police did not name, is charged with residential burglary, possession of stolen property and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is also charged with crimes in other jurisdictions, which the El Segundo police did not specify.

The authorities believe the man is a member of an organized group of residential burglars operating in Los Angeles and San Diego counties.
