The majority of voters who cast ballots for President Biden in 2020 now say he’s “too old to be an effective president,” a blow to the Democrat’s reelection efforts.
Most of Mr. Biden‘s supporters, 61%, said as much about the 81-year-old president in a New York Times/Siena College poll released Sunday.
For former President Donald Trump, who is 77 years old, 42% of his voters said his age would render him ineffective.
Among all registered voters, 73% said Mr. Biden is too old and 45% said he can’t do the job.
The lack of confidence in Mr. Biden stretched across several demographics, including age, race and gender. The doubts about his ability come amid frequent public gaffes that have led some members in his party to question his cognitive status as the White House tries to tamp down concerns.
The survey was conducted Feb. 25-28 among 980 registered voters, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
