The Food and Drug Administration has recalled thousands of pounds of frozen blueberries due to potential listeria contamination, multiple news outlets report.
The FDA initially ordered the recall of 55,689 pounds of frozen blueberries sold by the Oregon Potato Co. on Feb. 12 and updated the recall to Class I on Tuesday, meaning that regulators believe exposure could cause serious health consequences or even death.
Listeria is a bacterium that is usually transmitted during food harvesting and processing. It can cause fever, diarrhea and vomiting.
The contaminated products were sold in Michigan, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin, as well as parts of Canada.
Infected lot codes include codes 2055 B2, 2065 B1, and 2065 B3, expiring July 2027, as well as 1,400-pound totes with lot codes 3305 A1 and 3305 B1, expiring November 2027.
