Instagram ordering employees back to the office full time

U.S.-based employees of Meta subsidiary platform Instagram who already have assigned desks will have to start going into their offices full-time.

The change was disclosed in a memo from Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, in which he said that “I believe that we are more creative and collaborative when we are together in-person. I felt this pre-COVID and I feel it any time I go to our New York office where the in-person culture is strong.”

Mr. Mosseri said people with assigned desks at various U.S. offices needed to start coming in five days a week starting on Feb. 2, according to Business Insider.

Not every Instagram worker will be affected.

People who are currently remote will not have to return, while workers at New York’s Instagram offices are not currently slated to go back to full-time due to space constraints at that office.

Conversely, Instagram workers in Menlo Park, California, will be moving to a new building in the town on Jan. 26 to ensure everyone has an assigned desk.

Those workers who would prefer to commute to San Francisco instead will be able to transfer to that office, Mr. Mosseri said in the memo.

The shift to five days in-office only applies to Instagram, a Meta spokesperson told CNBC.

Other Meta platforms like Facebook and Threads will stay on the hybrid three-days-in model established in 2023.
