Passengers disembarked on the runway in Atlanta after a hard landing by an arriving LATAM Airlines Peru flight. There were no injuries.
Flight 2482, flying out of Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, Peru, landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at around 7:35 p.m. local time Tuesday, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the tires blew out after the plane’s safe, if rough, landing, according to WANF-TV.
Passengers said the aircraft shook upon landing, that at least one overhead bin opened up and a bathroom door came unmoored from its hinges, according to WANF-TV and WXIA-TV.
The airline said that “a technical event occurred” during the landing which left the plane stuck on the runway, without stating specifically what happened.
LATAM Airlines Peru said passengers and crew got off the plane without further incident, adding that the carrier “regrets any inconvenience this situation may have caused and reiterates that safety is a non-negotiable value in all its operations,” as translated from Spanish.
The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department responded to the scene, according to WUPA-TV. There were temporary delays on the tarmac.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
