Dulles shuttle crashes into United Airlines luggage cart

A mobile lounge carrying passengers between terminals at Washington Dulles International Airport hit a United Airlines luggage cart Wednesday, injuring a United employee.

The collision between the mobile lounge, a bus-like vehicle, and the luggage cart happened at about 5:15 p.m.

Dulles Airport spokesman James Johnson told news site Loudoun Now that “the shuttle was taken out of service for inspection. Passengers resumed their trip on another shuttle to the concourse.”

The airline and airport officials are investigating the matter.

On Nov. 10, a mobile lounge crashed into a concourse while carrying passengers. The crash sent 18 people to the hospital, according to WRC-TV.

Mobile lounges have been rolling at Dulles since its opening in 1962. The airport decided last year to invest about $160 million in refurbishing the shuttles in the hopes of using them 20 more years, according to WJLA-TV.
