Donald Trump to Marjorie Taylor Greene: ‘Not the time’ to fight with speaker

Former President Donald Trump criticized Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in the nicest way possible Wednesday after her attempt to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson went up in flames.

“I absolutely love Marjorie Taylor Greene. She’s got Spirit, she’s got Fight, and I believe she’ll be around, and on our side, for a long time to come,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social. “However, right now, Republicans have to be fighting the Radical Left Democrats, and all the Damage they have done to our Country.”

“With a Majority of One, shortly growing to three or four, we’re not in a position of voting on a Motion to Vacate. At some point, we may very well be, but this is not the time,” he said.

Mr. Trump said that if the GOP shows “DISUNITY, which will be portrayed as CHAOS,” then it will ruin his lead in the presidential race, both in swing states and nationally.

He called Mr. Johnson, Louisiana Republican, a “good man who is trying very hard.”

“I also wish certain things were done over the last period of two months, but we will get them done, together,” he said.

The former president called on Republicans to vote to table the motion, even though his post went up after Ms. Greene’s plans had already collapsed.

Mr. Trump and his team had been quietly hinting to Ms. Greene, Georgia Republican, for weeks to give up on her efforts to remove Mr. Johnson, but ultimately didn’t convince her.

The House voted 359-43, with seven lawmakers voting present, to kill Ms. Greene’s motion. Only 11 Republicans voted against Mr. Johnson, and 163 Democrats voted to rescue him.

“Hopefully this is the end of the personality politics and the frivolous character assassination that has defined 118th Congress,” Mr. Johnson said. “It’s regrettable. It’s not who we are as Americans. We’re better than that.”
