D.C. security guard arrested, accused of assaulting co-worker at grocery store with a gun

A security guard working at a grocery store in the District of Columbia’s Northwest area was arrested Tuesday, accused of using a gun to assault a co-worker.

Suspect Raeford Bush, 49, of Southeast, is a special police officer, given arrest powers within the confines of their contracted workplace, in this case a grocery store in the 1800 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW.

At about 12:35 a.m. Saturday, Mr. Bush and the victim got into a dispute, the Metropolitan Police Department said. Mr. Bush is alleged to have pulled out and brandished his issued gun as the victim walked away.

Mr. Bush is accused of assaulting the victim the rest of their shift, including pretending to show his weapon and making “unwanted contact.” The victim was uninjured by the repetitive contact and reported the matter to MPD.

Mr. Bush has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and simple assault.
