Women in white: Democratic Women’s Caucus wears white at State of the Union

Several members of the House Democratic Women’s Caucus donned white for their symbol of protest this year at President Trump’s first State of the Union of his second term.

White is the color of suffrage. After wearing pink last year, the women went back to making their political statement opposing attacks on women’s rights.

Democratic Reps. Robin Kelly of Illinois, Janelle Bynum of Oregon, Sarah McBride of Delaware, Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Nancy Pelosi of California were just some of the lawmakers spotted in white.

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez of New Mexico, the head of the 96-member caucus, chose to boycott the address. She told CBS News that the color women wear “depends on where we’re at in the moment.”

“This year, there are specific attacks on women’s ability to vote,” she said. “The Democratic Women’s Caucus is wearing white both to honor that fight that women have always had and to signal we are still in the fight.”

In 2018, the women wore black in support of the #MeToo movement for women who experienced sexual harassment and abuse. The pink attire from 2025 was in opposition to some of Mr. Trump’s policies affecting women.
