Alleged suspect in Kansas City parade shooting Lyndell Mays’ family sets up, deletes GoFundMe page

A GoFundMe page was set up — and then removed — by the family of one of the men charged in the deadly shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade last week.

The mother of alleged gunman Lyndell Mays said she created the fundraiser to cover her son’s medical bills during this “tragic time.”

Teneal Burnside said her 23-year-old son is recovering from multiple surgeries after he was wounded in the shooting that police said he confessed to starting.

The fundraiser was taken down after bringing in a single $100 donation.

The page appeared to be set up two days after the Feb. 14 shooting, according to a screenshot captured by the Daily Mail.

Mr. Mays and Dominic Miller, 18, have both been charged with murder after the wanton shooting that killed Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two, and injured 22 other people — including eight children who were hit by bullets.

Two juveniles, who haven’t been identified, have also been charged in connection to the incident.

Police affidavits said Mr. Mays traded glances and then began arguing with another group of people at the parade.

Investigators said the 23-year-old admitted to pulling out a gun and shooting at the group.

The other suspects responded by drawing their own weapons and returning fire, police said, causing the Super Bowl parade to turn into a crime scene.

“Stupid, man. Just pulled a gun out and started shooting. I shouldn’t have done that. Just being stupid,” Mr. Mays told police, according to the arresting documents.

Mr. Miller, the other adult charged in the case, is accused of firing the bullet that killed Ms. Lopez-Galvan.

Both adult suspects are being held on a $1 million bond.
