Donald Trump dubs Marjorie Taylor Greene a ‘Rotten Apple,’ as GOP feud boils over

President Trump says Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is less a Georgia peach and more a “rotten apple.”

Their feud flared Monday, less than a day after Ms. Greene had criticized Mr. Trump in a “60 Minutes” interview — prompting Mr. Trump to unload on Truth Social.

“The only reason Marjorie ’Traitor’ Brown (Green turns Brown under stress!) went bad is that she was jilted by the President of the United States (certainly not the first time she has been jilted!),” the president posted on Truth Social. “Too much work, not enough time, and her ideas are, NOW, really bad.”

“She sort of reminds me of a Rotten Apple!” he said. “Marjorie is not America First or MAGA, because nobody could have changed her views so fast, and her new views are those of a very dumb person.”

Ms. Greene fired back online, posting images that claimed Mr. Trump had pocketed $230 million from pro-Israel groups while she hadn’t received a dime.

“I am America First,” the Georgia Republican insisted on X, before echoing one of Mr. Trump’s catchphrases. “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

It’s a remarkable turn for Ms. Greene, 51, and Mr. Trump, 79.

For years, Ms. Greene was arguably Mr. Trump’s most loyal and vocal ally on Capitol Hill. She embraced his stolen-election claims in 2020 and stood by him after the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

But the relationship fell apart around the time Ms. Greene joined a push to release federal files on late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

She recently announced she plans to step down from her seat next month, saying she refuses to be a “battered wife.”

On CBS’ “60 Minutes,” Ms. Greene said she fought to release the Epstein files because she was standing up for “women who were raped when they were 14 years old” and said Mr. Trump called her a traitor for it.

She recalled him being “extremely angry” at her decision and warning that releasing the files would “hurt people,” though she said she didn’t know who he meant.

Ms. Greene also blasted Mr. Trump for turning his focus away from the America First agenda, while cozying up to controversial figures, from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has been linked to the death of an American journalist, to Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former al-Qaeda member.

“For an America First president, the No. 1 focus should have been domestic policy, and it wasn’t,” she said.

She said his attacks on her sparked threats, including a pipe bomb scare at her home and death threats against her son.

“The subject line for the direct death threats on my son was his words: “Marjorie Traitor Greene,” she said, saying they were “directly fueled by President Trump.”

The president has previously brushed off those claims last month, saying, “I don’t think her life is in danger” and “I don’t think anybody cares about her.”

For Ms. Greene, the episode underscores why Republicans are reluctant to cross Mr. Trump.

“I think they’re terrified to step outta line and get a nasty Truth Social post on them,” she said.
