Sure, they are smuggling drugs into the country that kill millions of Americans, but, looked at properly, the drug smugglers really are just guys, you know.
That is the new line that the Democrats are using to justify their opposition to striking narco-terrorist boats ferrying drugs into the United States.
I’m not kidding. That line is now making its way into the liberal media sphere, mouthed by Democratic Members of Congress.
Rep. @jahimes decided to go on MSNBC last night with Jen “Circle Back” Psaki to defend narco traffickers and said:

Just as the Tren de Aragua gang members who terrorize people in Colorado really aren’t so bad, or MS-13 human traffickers should be seen as “fathers” and “constituents,” drug smugglers WHO HAVE BEEN WARNED THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN and seen the videos are victims of a colonialist capitalist system that prevents them from just making an honest living by killing people.

Imagine these people during World War II, explaining why we shouldn’t fight the Nazi troops. After all, many of them were conscripts, so wouldn’t it be mean to use artillery and bombers to take them out?
Perhaps the same people who are bloodthirsty and want to keep the Ukraine war going indefinitely could rethink their policies in light of the fact that, really, this is Putin’s war, and we shouldn’t help Ukraine because some of those Russian soldiers might die.
That’s (D)ifferent. Who is a victim and who is not depends entirely on whether Democrats like them or not. (For the record, I think Russia started the war and would love to live in a world where they were kicked out without unnecessary bloodshed; I just think the war is a bloody stalemate.)
The sad truth is that many of the people who die in conflicts are not the top dogs, but that doesn’t mean they are not legitimate targets. And in the case of the drug smugglers, they really ARE the bad guys, and not just conscripts who got caught in the middle. Not that killing them if they were would be wrong; the government exists to protect Americans, not people who intend to harm them for whatever reason.
It’s all part of the same weaponized empathy that leads Democrats to smuggle violent illegal aliens out of jail to help them avoid deportation. Illegal alien=victim, no matter who.

Federal officials say more than 6,947 criminal migrants were released from New York custody this year despite ICE detainers, including 29 killers. Democrats sued to prevent ICE from co-locating inside Rikers Island, where Trump officials sought to intercept violent offenders before release. Judges, including Mary Rosado, ruled in favor of the lawsuits, preventing ICE transfers and allowing high-risk offenders back onto city streets. DHS cited cases involving Cuban national Jose Antonio Andreo-Quezada, Honduran national Alex Martinez-Avila, and Venezuelan national Hector De Sousa-Villalta, all released despite ICE detainers and later rearrested for homicide or violent felonies.
I’m sure many of them have sad stories, to which I say, “So what?” If they weren’t violent criminals, I would care and even suggest that good Samaritans help them out. I have contributed to microfinance charities to help people in third-world countries start businesses and become self-sufficient.
But criminals? Screw them. I really don’t care about their sob stories.

For some reason, liberals are hyper-focused on helping the predators when Americans are the prey.
I suppose that the warmer-hearted hope that there is some magic that will turn what amounts to a zero-sum game—predator wins, or prey is protected—into some mythical win-win situation.
It’s like they live in a world where singing “Imagine” will heal the world.
