Supreme Court Justice Neil M. Gorsuch next year will release a children’s book called “Heroes of 1776” to share stories of courage by young people who supported the Declaration of Independence.
Justice Gorsuch and his former clerk Janie Nitze co-wrote the book, published by HarperCollins, which presents stories about American leaders during the American Revolution. It will be ready for purchase in May.
The book also showcases everyday people who contributed to America’s greatness — not just leaders such as Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.
“Heroes of 1776” includes a story about an 18-year-old spy who escaped British troops to deliver an important message to the revolutionaries.
It also details the story of a man suffering from cancer who rode 80 miles overnight to break a tie vote over the Declaration of Independence.
“We know some of those names, of course … there are so many ordinary people who did extraordinary things,” Justice Gorsuch said Thursday on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.” “There are just so many of these incredible stories of courage and sacrifice … and I just wanted to inspire young people to do things like that themselves.”
