New YouTube documentary seeks to produce breakthrough in Relisha Rudd case

A new documentary series premiering later this month centers on the case of Relisha Rudd, who went missing in the District in 2014.

Relisha, an 8-year-old at the time, was last seen in March 2014 in the company of Kahlil Malik Tatum, 51, who was found dead in April 2014 in Northeast, the FBI says on its website.

Relisha had been a second-grader at Southeast’s Payne Elementary School and was a resident at the now-defunct D.C. General Family Shelter along with her mother at the time of her March 1 disappearance.

Tatum worked as a janitor at the shelter; his death is presumed to be a suicide, according to WTOP-FM.

The nonprofit Black and Missing Foundation’s “The Vanishing of Relisha Rudd: A Cold Case Reexamined” focuses on the case with the ultimate aim of finding Relisha.

The first episode debuts on YouTube on Oct. 29, Relisha’s 20th birthday, and the second debuts on Oct. 30.

“This isn’t just a docuseries, it’s a call to action. Relisha deserves to be found. Her story, and the stories of so many others like hers, remind us that visibility is justice. We will never stop searching for Relisha,” said Derrica Wilson and Natalie Wilson, founders of the Black and Missing Foundation.

The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for information on Relisha’s whereabouts and return.
