Law enforcement confirmed Thursday that remains found in the woods in Washington state last week belong to a missing man accused of killing his daughters.
“We have received results back from the Washington State Patrol’s crime lab. … Those remains do come back as a positive match for Travis Decker,” Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said at a press conference Thursday.
His remains were found last week in a wooded area south of Leavenworth, Washington.
Sheriff Morrison said that he wanted the lab results to “knock down conspiracy theories.”
“Mr. Decker did not take anyone else up there and leave the remains behind,” he said. “This is Mr. Decker’s remains. The clothing matches, the remains match. That is the end of the conversation.”
The remains were identified with a DNA match.
Authorities began searching for Mr. Decker on June 2 after finding the bodies of his three daughters, Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, near Leavenworth. Their mother reported them missing on May 30 when the girls did not return from a scheduled visitation with Mr. Decker.
Sheriff Morrison said the coroner’s officer was working to determine Mr. Decker’s cause of death and how long Decker had been dead.
