Trump to host Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at White House

President Trump said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be coming to Washington to discuss trade and military deals, including the purchase of a Boeing plane and fighter jets.

“We are working on many Trade and Military Deals with the President, including the large scale purchase of Boeing aircraft, a major F-16 Deal, and a continuation of the F-35 talks, which we expect to conclude positively,” he wrote on social media Friday.

He said the Turkish president will visit on Sept. 25, and the two “have always had a very good relationship.”

The meeting comes after both leaders will be in New York for the annual United Nations General Assembly.

It also comes after Mr. Trump said he’s ready to place sanctions on Russia, as long as NATO nations agree to do the same, and stop purchasing oil from Russia, as he continues to push for an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Turkey is one of the largest importers of Russian oil, and Mr. Trump has argued that the purchases of Russian oil fuels its war machine.

Mr. Erdogan’s last visit to the White House was in November 2019 during Mr. Trump’s first term, where they discussed Kurdish forces in Syria and Turkey’s purchases of Russian missile defenses.
