Liz Cheney calls Taylor Swift a ‘national treasure’ amid conspiracy theories

Former Rep. Liz Cheney weighed in on the criticism that pop star Taylor Swift has been facing from conservatives.

“Taylor Swift is a national treasure,” Ms. Cheney, who was a Republican from Wyoming, wrote on X.

A flurry of attention has been on the singer, with conspiracy theories coming out on the conservative side saying the Feb. 11 Super Bowl between Ms. Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers is rigged to set up a Kansas City victory and endorsement of President Biden.

“I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month. And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months,” former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy posted on X Monday.

Benny Johnson, a right-wing media personality, called the megastar “an op.”

“It’s all fake. You’re being played,” he wrote on X.

Mike Crispi, a Rumble video host, said on X that the “NFL is totally RIGGED for the Kansas City Chiefs, Taylor Swift, Mr. Pfizer (Travis Kelce).”

“All to spread DEMOCRAT PROPAGANDA. Calling it now: KC … goes to Super Bowl, Swift comes out at the halftime show and ‘endorses’ Joe Biden with Kelce at midfield. It’s all been an op since day one,” he wrote.

CNN’s Jake Tapper mocked the conspiracy theories Tuesday.

“Far-right conspiracy theorists certainly don’t seem to be following Taylor Swift’s advice to just ‘Shake It Off,’” Mr. Tapper said.
