GIGAcalculator report says Virginia ranks as safest state in an alien invasion

Virginia might just be the safest refuge during a future alien invasion, according to a new study.

According to GIGAcalculator, an online calculator and converter platform, Virginia ranks as the best prepared state, thanks to its high military-to-civilian ratio — nearly 17 service members per 1,000 residents.

The analysis weighed practical survival metrics like forest cover, access to water, caves, population density and UFO sightings. Virginia scored an 8.06 out of 10 by those metrics within GIGACalculator’s scoring system.

“The state has the third most military members,” the company noted in its email press release, per a Florida Times-Union report. “And … the ninth most forest-covered — plenty of room to hide.”

GIGAcalculator noted in its email to press that Virginia’s status as the birthplace of eight U.S. presidents might come with “insider knowledge of extraterrestrial life.”

Safest states during an alien invasion, GIGAcalculator reports:

1. Virginia

2. Alabama

3. Massachusetts

4. New York

5. Minnesota

Alabama claimed second place with 7.91, helped by its mountainous terrain and 35 known caves. Massachusetts, New York, and Minnesota rounded out the top five.

Nevada took the bottom spot despite — or perhaps because of — its own alien lore. Other poorly ranked states included Oregon, Nebraska, Arizona and Idaho.

Maryland ranked 16th, while West Virginia and Delaware landed at 35th and 41st.
