Fairfax County police on Wednesday said one man was gunned down and another is fighting for his life after a drug deal went awry in Centreville.
Capt. Kent Bailey said gunfire erupted around 9:30 a.m. in the 14600 block of Route 29 during an “illegal narcotics transaction” in a shopping center parking lot.
Police said one of the men died at the scene. The other was taken to a hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Neither of the victims have been identified.
No arrests have been made in the shooting, but Capt. Bailey said both men are the only people tied to the deadly exchange.
“I can emphasize that nobody else was shot,” Capt. Bailey said. “Both individuals who were involved in this transaction are accounted for.”
Police said they recovered two guns at the scene and that they believe the firearms belonged to the two victims.
Authorities didn’t discuss what kind of drugs were involved in the suspected deal.
